Awkward staying in room 4, with bathroom down the hall. Particularly for night use. Overall, a really lovely stay. Enjoyed chatting with Andrew. Thank you.

Tips:

Great location! Close to the waterfront, restaurants, groceries. An easy drive to many local sites such as St. Michael's mount, many ancient stone circle, The Minack Theatre, ancient villages, and more. Enjoy the ambiance of an old victorian home with delicious breakfasts each morning. Enjoy your stay.

It was an easy walk from the station to reach you and your email instructions to enter were useful. My room was lovely and comfortable and I appreciated the range of condiments/soap etc. Although the bathroom needs a bit of tlc I didnt mind. Andrew made a nice breakfast and the other cereals, toasts etc on offer were great. Andrew was very helpful with walking tips for my onward journey.

Tips:

I didn’t want to rain too far as I wasn’t very well but Lidl is close by and I had dinner at Thai Moon which was quite nice.

Excellent value. Friendly, clean, homely environment. Good delicious breakfast choices served in a light & cosy room. The Bedroom had plenty of room & was very comfortable, (especially the bed) with chairs at the window to take in the view of the Harbour & sea. There was a nice selection of teas, coffees & biscuits, and our hand & bath towels were soft.

Tips:

Parking is on the street but often spaces are available directly by the house. A short walking distance takes you to the harbor and sea front, while alleyways, starting at the top of the road, lead you to the shops, restaurants etc.

Andrew and Lynsey were excellent hosts. The breakfast is served was hearty and the selection plenty sufficient for my needs. I felt like the room cleaner could have been a tad more thorough in replenishing of things and taking into consideration the way I used the room. But I would definitely stay here again if Andrew and Lynsey were still the owners.

I would definitely recommend the white pub that’s by the sea in Newlyn. Also the oldest pub in Cornwall, whose name I can’t remember right now.

The method of checking in was informal (via combination lock) but very efficient. Lyndsey was a charming host, and the breakfast was possibly the best ever, with high quality sausages etc and strawberries, blueberries and cream - along with the usual options. Spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, and fairly quiet location. Good DVD player in side of TV. A more user-friendly table in bedroom for personal tea and biscuits would be nice though, but the refreshments were good.

Tips:

The local Wetherspoons up the hill is good, with quite rapid service. Also an excellent Chinese restaurant, just beyond the top of Market Jew Street. The bus stop to Mousehole and Lands End is just down the road from Glencree towards the sea front.

A very warm and welcoming and very helpful host who made you feel at home. A great location in a truly charming, spacious and well equipped house. Lovely breakfast options, all very tasty and well prepared. Thanks!

Tips:

It is an easy 15 minute walk along the seaside to the train and bus station. The Minack Theatre and St Michaels Mount are must sees as is Penelee House. The nearby fish and chip shop (Fraser’s) serves great fish and chips. Penzance is a great place to stay as it is the hub for train and bus travel.

I was made very welcome when I was greeted in the morning, the room was lovely a cosy and a really comfortable bed. The only down side was the noise from the pub close by on the Saturday evening, live band playing until 11pm.

I coudn’t rate 5 on cleanliness even though I didn’t find any wrong. The reason is just this was my first experience of staying in b&b. I usually stay in a hotel. Breakfast was lovely that I regret I didn’t have it on the first morning.

Tips:

I walked to saint Michael along the shore and took a bus the way back. As Lindsey recomended, old mining heritages are very interesting sites. I walked into Geevor mine after closed hours. From St. Ives to Land’s end was exceptional driving course with looking out sea for hours.

One word "Outstanding" The level of customer service was 1st class. The room was clean spacious and tidy. Lovely shower and the body was lovely, but I can't find it on Amazon! Only negative and it was a small one. the milk pots were off which resulted in the Coffee having bits and lumps in. Therefore I was unable to drink the coffee. The Cooked Breakfast was 1st class also. I would stay here again.

Tips:

Try to get a Plus Bus tick prior to arriving if coming by train, then take the A1 from stand B at Penzance, Then using the same plus bus take the A2 to Lands End take some photos and the same bus with your same ticket takes you to St Ives. Amazing days travel all on one ticket.

Tips:

There is a good range of bus links and we enjoyed the bus ride to Sennen Cove, and another day to St Ives - plenty of sandy beaches and a variety of galleries. Glencree House is a few minutes walk from Penlee House Gallery/museum and Morrab Gardens. The area is good for walks, it's not far to Mousehole, and Marazion. The board games were a good idea and breakfast was very good, however I feel some minor amendments are needed to make this b&b feel good value for money for £95 per night. The bed was quite hard and not very comfortable, it was also quite small we felt a king size would be better for the large room. There was no full length mirror in the room. The room could have been cleaner, table legs dusty as were skirting boards and behind chest of drawers were cobwebs. The wardrobe although a nice antique was not tall enough for dresses longer than knee height to be stored in without touching the floor, perhaps soom hooks or rail on the wall? As would not hang dresses on backs of door for fear of catching. We liked the eco touch with the toiletries and organic choices at breakfast but to have plastic stem cotton buds felt very at odds with this? Would have expected to see paper stem ones. The bathroom door did not fit!!! This was the worst bit - if I am on a romantic holiday I do not want to see my OH on the loo!!!!

Nice cosy house in a quiet small street. Room was spacious but narrow because it was located in the attic. Shower and toilet were very small and the sink was outside the bathroom. It would have been nice if there were more racks for drugstore products. The room was furnished with 60s style furnitures. But it lookes a little bit worn up. The room is o.k. for one or two nights. It was a little bit difficult to reach the hotel keepers as we didn't get the instructions for the hotel key on time and no one answered the phone. It would have been better if the keepers would have send the instructions for the key right away with the booking. The location of the guesthouse is a little bit outside the city centre. You may walk 15 minutes to get to a restaurant.

We very much enjoyed our stay with you and found everyone very friendly and helpful. We did mean to mention a couple of things before we left but forgot. First thing was the clothes hanging arrangement, we thought this could be improved if either castors were put on the bottom of the unit to make it easy to hang clothes. I (Chris) found it quite difficult to get to my clothes. Or a small wardrobe. Secondly provide semi-skimmed milk in the rooms. Other than that it was great and we would certainly stay again.

Very pleasant and helpful hosts, appreciated that a morning taxi had been booked for us. Cooked breakfast was excellent, the property was spotless and the short stay was totally hassle free. It will be our first choice in future. We stayed so to catch the Scillonian III first thing in the morning. Thank you Linsey. A fan would have been an asset as the top floor room was hot and stuffy on the particular night we stayed.

6th November 2017:

We experienced an extremely warm and informative welcome on our arrival. The dining room was decorated and furnished in a manner that "it embraced" you when you entered. Breakfast was of a high standard as was Andrew's service. The Glencree is certainly worth a visit.

Tips:

We were informed that the town was fifteen minutes walk from the house and we found this to be true. The walk through the narrow and picturesque streets was enjoyable as was the sea front route. I consider that Bens Cornish Kitchen at Marazion "is the only place" to eat. We were very impressed. The Turks Head and the Admiral Benbow were full of interest and the food was of a high standard.

17th October 2017:

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Glencree House. We really only interacted with Andrew, but would say he is one of the nicest, pleasant, courteous, and helpful hosts we've seen! Our room was small but nice and looked out towards the ocean. Our room was nice and quiet. We really enjoyed the breakfasts and ate in a nice dining area in the front of the house. Parking is anywhere you can find it, which could be an issue depending on when you leave and arrive. The location was perfect - easy to get anywhere and short walk into town.

Tips:

Andrew recommended several places, and we chose to walk down the Esplanade to Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar in Newlyn. It was a pleasant 15 minute walk and the food was excellent! We also enjoyed visiting Mousehole and were amazed at the Minack Theatre nearby. If you make the trip to Falmouth, the Pendennis Castle and Trelissek Gardens are well worth it.

We loved our 2 nights here. Wonderful location which allowed us to walk all about the sea front. The breakfasts were delicious. We had fresh fruit, yogurt, full English breakfast if desired. Smoked salmon option was lovely. Our bed was comfortable. The pillows were comfortable. We thought the en suite shower was very nice. Thank you Andrew and Lindsey!! We are happy you have chosen this lifestyle and are sharing it with us!

Tips:

We thought touring the tin mine was important to understanding how this part of English industry was like, these were hard working men. Our guide worked in the mine. It was a great tour. Lunch in the cafe was very good.

This was my second stay at Glencree House and the welcome was as warm as ever. Our bathroom could do with a freshen up, but the sea view room was great and the breakfast as good as before. Great selection of items on the menu. Lovely fresh towels each day. Andrew is very knowledgeable about Penzance and Cornwall and happy to give you hints on where to eat, and what to see etc.

Tips:

The food at the Turk's Head is very good. We also had a meal at Queens Hotel and the pasta dish was lovely. St Michael's Mount was well worth a visit, as we're the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Andrew and Lyndsey were excellent hosts, being both convivial and organised, so that are stay was relaxed and at home. The property was spotlessly clean, with attention paid to detail. Refreshments in the room were generous and of quality. The breakfast room featured a cheerful log burning stove and excellent food. We left feeling our stay in Penzance had been greatly enhanced by the warmth of Glencree. (Genuine value for money!)

Glencree House is unique, well-located, reasonable in price, quaint and comfortable. Andrew and Lynsey are welcoming and friendly. They provide homemade breakfast at the time you choose and will help with any local needs as well, including information on transportation and places to eat. The rooms have coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies each day, and the beds are very comfortable. The house is within walking distance of the seashore. We had a wonderful stay.

Tips:

Walking along the shore in both directions from the house is really enjoyable. St Michael's Mount is well-worth visiting, as is timing your visit so that you can take the boat over one way and walk the causeway at low tide one way. We loved the fish and chips at Frasier's near the B&B and at Market Plaice Fish Bar on Causeway Head. Andrew helped us take the bus round to Land's End and St Ives -- very worth the time (and pretty exciting as the road is very narrow!)

Only "complaint" is that toilet in room 3 was very difficult to flush. Often took 4-6 attempts to flush and then mist of the time etc had to go through the whole process again to get a complete flush. Everything else was great. Breakfasts were excellent and we appreciated the apples set out on the entry table. Andrew was very helpful with arranging a dinner reservation and also with tips for sites to visit.

Thanks for the careful attention to so many details regarding my stay. The comfortable bed, tasty food and helpful travel suggestions were appreciated greatly. I enjoyed watching the flowers in the hall open every day. The coffee and tea selection in the room were excellent. The breakfast menu has so many great choices. I appreciate the fair trade products.

Tips:

There is a great fish and chips shop near the laundromat for some quick, English good. There is a food trailer, Little Wonder, on the Promenade on the weekends and I recommend their food and hospitality. Cape Cornwall is interesting with Bronze Age burials.

Another great visit to Glencree House! Andrew and Lynsey greet visitors warmly and attend to all details regarding your visit with care. They can offer many helpful suggestions to your day's activities. The beds are so comfortable. There is a high standard of cleanliness. The breakfast menu is varied, and all the food is tasty and freshly cooked. I recommend the salmon and eggs on toast. Local apple juice is a delight. Big bouquets of fresh flowers are in the entry and halls, and smaller bouquets on the breakfast tables. Fair trade products throughout the house demonstrate a level of care for many communities. I look forward to my next visit.

Tips:

The local buses are a good option to many locations. The Penlee Art Museum is nearby and has a lovely cafe. Mackerel Sky in Newlyn and Navy Inn in Penzance have good food.

I appreciated the added information about the local are, it made sightseeing so much easier. Your extensive library was an added bonus. Being friendly makes all the difference, I have had landlords not even acknowledge my name. Their establishments were great but they were not. Keep up the good work, obviously it is paying off.

Tips:

Do your research on the area, it is a great day out, driving around the countryside, but not for the feint hearted. Lanes are narrow, but the villages are worth the effort.

Having stayed at Glencree before we knew we would receive a warm and friendly reception from hosts Lindsay and Andrew and were not disappointed. Conveniently located in the town for all amenities, Glencree is a perfect place to stay whatever the reason for your visit to Penzance. If you like a good breakfast then look no further as Glencree does not disappoint.

Tips:

There are plenty of eating and drinking haunts in the town, but for something different take the walk along the coast through Newlyn to Mousehole and take lunch at "2 Fore Street' where they serve dressed crab to die for. The Minack Theatre is a must if you like a production in stunning surroundings, and there is plenty of history to be had among the old tin mines such as Poldark Mine near Helston. If you are a rugby fan and are visiting the Mennaye Field home to Cornish Pirates, then Glencree is ideally situated "just around the corner".

21st June 2016:

We've been staying at Glencree house for about 7 years now and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The location is close enough to the shops and cafes that you can walk but far enough away to get a peaceful nights sleep. The breakfast is very tasty and the option of fresh fruit and yoghurt is fantastic. Andrew and Lynsey are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area.

Tips:

If you like seafood than The Shore is a must for either lunch or an evening meal but make sure you book as it's difficult to get a walk in table. For tea and cake either the honeypot or the little wonder caravan. We actually prefer little wonder now as we get to over look the bay and the honeypot can get very busy and noisy. St Ives is a short train journey (good price and quicker than the bus). A good place for a sit down and a drink is the surf shack who also do amazing crepes. We also like to visit Jessie's dairy in Mousehole for ice cream (they serve Roskillys which in my option is the best). You can also visit Roskillys farm which is about a 45 min drive and close to the lizard. If you're visiting Roskillys and the lizard then the chocolate factory and craft centre are close by in mullion.

Andrew met us with smile and fabulous local produce and advice! The breakfast was first rate with top quality locally sourced foods in a lovely breakfast room with the fire burning! We listened to his recommendations on what to see and where to go in and around Penzance and were thrilled to see as much as we did. A local pub-the Navy Inn was also a gem and provided us with a fabulous meal 2minutes from the guesthouse. Would stay back there as a first choice-the room was lovely .

Tips:

Mousehole is a gorgeous quaint town five minutes drive on the coast and well worth the visit. Lands end is commercial but we avoided the cost and crowd by visiting early on a sunny morning! Michaels mount is a great visual and meant to be great to visit( we did not go across). A lovely stop with plenty to see and do .

Our stay was much like staying with family. Andrew and Lynsey operate their B&B efficiently, but with tons of personal care. Our room was spotless and very comfortable with a spectacular view of the water. The neighborhood was quiet so that we slept very well, even with the window open. And the made-to-order breakfast started our days deliciously. It was a wonderful stay all around.

Tips:

The Navy Inn is great for a quiet dinner. And we hired Cornwall Tour (Andrew and John) for two separate days so that we could see the area without having to drive ourselves.

The most wonderful place to stay at! Andrew and Lynsey were so nice, hepful and lovely. The facilities were superb (having a bath in a non-ensuite but still private bathroom after a 31 km/19 mile walk on the coastal path was heavenly), and wifi actually available in the room as well (in many places "free wifi available" means that you have to stand on your bed, keeping your phone/tablet close to the ceiling or something similar). With Andrew's delicious breakfast I kept going well past noon on the path. If you want a fantastic experience at a very reasonable rate, I warmly recommend staying at Glencree house. Minna/Finland

It's located a convenient 15-20 min walk from Penzance station, just off the promenade. They also let me leave my bag in the lounge on departure day as my Sailing embarkation time wasn't until the afternoon. Thanks for a great start to my holiday !

Both Andrew and Lyndsey very friendly and professional. Easy to book. Quick reply when I made an enquiry about staying the weekend and they were not in Penzance at the time (via email). I have stayed in Penzance many times over the years and they make it comfortable and easy for single people. In other accommodation that I have stayed at in the town I have been made to feel awkward as I have been taking up a room and am on my own!

Tips:

Stop off when travelling to and from Scilly. Good access to buses which serve this part of West Penwith and Cornwall well. Easy walk to train station. The food at the Dolphin pub was excellent and good value I had two meals there this year. Beautiful easy walks nearby. Art in Penlee house is fantastic.

Received a warm welcome from Lynsey and made to feel very welcome. Andrew prepared a lovely breakfast each day and was equally as welcoming and helpful. Our shower/toilet room was a little small and cramped but having said that - plenty of hot water. Very comfortable bed and we had a lovely view from our window (room 5!) Would definately book in here again when we next visit Cornwall.

Tips:

The Boatyard restaurant - had a very nice meal there.

Perfect spot for what we required, very friendly on arrival and the room (No. 7) was ideal and had a wonderful view of Mounts Bay. Will certainly use this place again if in the area and would happily recommend to anyone else.

Tips:

If you are looking for a very nice, comfortable restaurant with personal service and top quality food together with a fine selection of local beer, try the Navy Inn only ten minutes walk along the front.

All of west Cornwall is within easy reach, so an ideal base for walking one of the best sections of the coastal path (St Ives to Penzance). A lot of interesting history nearby - the Levant tin mine near St Just was very good. Excellent restaurants were the Navy Inn and the Tolcarne Inn (both recommended by our host).

This is a hidden gem located in a quiet area of Penzance. The owners, Andrew and Lynsey are genuinely friendly and really care about what they do. The accommodation is very comfortable and spotlessly clean, and the breakfast is superb. Will definitely return!

Tips:

WiFi signal was good, even in Room 8 at the top of the house. Parking is on-street, but it's in a quiet area. If you are a walker, they offer a luggage transport service to your next accommodation. It's less than 10 mins walk to the dock for the Scillonian III, and it's a lovely walk along the promenade to Newlyn.

Tips:

can recommend porthcurno telegraph museum for when the weather isn't so great or before a visit to the beach (porthcurno beach is very steep to get down to). Great attention to detail with chamomile, redbush and peppermint teas in with the tea and (real) coffee on the room tray, and Andrew and Lyndsey can recommend good places to eat out. B&b in a great location for the promenade, coastal path and also for town amenities and the quay. Bed extremely comfy and despite being in a new place I slept like a log. A very warm welcome from the hosts who can't do enough for their guests. The room (5) was light and airy with a great view over the tennis courts and bowling green. The bed had lovely crisp white bedding. Breakfast was amazing with every taste catered for. Parking is on street but was not difficult to find a spot within reasonable walking distance. One slight negative is the sink located in the room which is a feature of older B&B's and the tiny shower/toilet which I found too small. I felt the price was slightly on the higher side which is probably reflective of the premium that is accommodation in July in Penzance. But overall a lovely B&B with a great welcome.

Great huge breakfast with fresh fruit & hot foods as well as just about anything English you can think about. Fresh flowers & lots of little touches for peaceful, restful stay. Andrew & Lindsay were friendly, helpful, knowledgable hosts with 2 adorable children. Thank You, Andrew & Lindsay Kathy HT, from NC, USA

Tips:

Ask Andrew..several excellent restaurants within walking distance. Also, ask Andrew to arrange tour with Russ...great tour! Loved seeing Minack Threater as well. Beautiful area!

A delightful stay of 4 nights so we had an opportunity to experience the hospitality of this excellent bed and breakfast establishment over several days. An exceptional breakfast and very comfortable room. The hosts are helpful and informative and nothing was too much trouble.

Tips:

There are some good places to eat both in Penzance and nearby Newlyn. Interesting places to visit and coastal walks are easily accessible. A good touring base for the West of Cornwall.

Andrew is really helpful and kind, offered a lot of travel tips and insights! I have really enjoyed my stay at Glencree House!

Tips:

Remember to put on sunscreen when watching a show at Minack Theatre in summer, or you will get distracted by the beautiful view without noticing you got sunburnt! =P Also, bring along a jacket/ cushion/ blanket so you can sit comfortably to enjoy the show!

A very enjoyable stay . Location is close to sea front and some great restaurants . I will be back for sure. Thank you ! :)

Tips:

Mackerel Sky in town is a great fish restaurant . Blacks in Chaple street is also well worth a visit. The local gardens within 5 mins walk from the B&B are also very enjoyable .

15th June 2015:

It was a lovely place and the welcome was so friendly. I had a good room with a large window with a sea view in the distance. My only gripe would be that the storage space for clothes (i.e the wardrobe/chest of drawers) was very dated and flimsy. If this was remedied then the room would be superb. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and a light sunny room to enjoy it in.

The owners were not around as often as I would have liked (basically only saw Andrew at breakfast), and it was a bit of a walk from the train stations and downtown shops. Other than that it was great.

My Fiancee and I were greatly impressed with the hotel. We found you to be charming hosts, who provided a well run establishment with lovely decorated traditional B&B style rooms. Breakfast was also lovely. Ive marked the location a four because the sea view room overlooks a tennis court which on the first night of our stay was used by some louder local youths for some kind of gathering - they werent playing tennis! Fortunatly thanks to the age of the building once the windows were closed we couldnt hear anything outside, so this was a very minor matter.

Tips:

St Michaels Mounth is a real must as far as local things go, and if you want to enjoy some seaside scenery check out Kynance Cove to the south! Both are real visual spectacles for very different reasons! If you are looking for day trips out and dont mind further travel via car check out looe which is around the side of cornwall, and the small fishing cillage of polperro is lovely too.

We had a lovely stay at Glencree House. The room was pretty, clean and comfortable with a pleasant view (shame about the big bird poos on the nice bay window!). The shower was tiny, especially difficult for big, tall people - but fine for one night. We slept well and had a delicious breakfast, kindly served early in the morning in time for us to make the boat to Scilly. We would love to stay with you again next time we come to Penzance. Thanks for being so welcoming and helpful.

Tips:

We had dinner at Coco Loco (Mexican) - very good food with great decor and atmosphere!

A lovely welcoming house, thoughtfully equipped room, beautiful interiors without being fussy. Friendly welcoming proprietors, couldn't have been more helpful even on a busy bank holiday weekend.

Tips:

Didn't stay long enough really but the independent bookshop is great and we left our bags at the Longhouse Inn pub while we looked around town. £3 a bag.

Traveling is as much about the people we meet as the sites we see. Andrew, our host, puts people at ease with his warmth and humor. We were made to feel like close friends/relatives who had been invited into the home he shares with his lovely wife and children. I looked forward to breakfast each morning, not just for Andrew's excellent cooking, but to share info with the other guests. Andrew has that rare quality of bringing people together. Did I mention how beautiful the Glencree Guest House and neighborhood are?

Tips:

The Glencree has the best of both worlds, minutes in every direction to the ocean, main shopping area and amusement facilities, as well as restaurants of every kind, yet on a peaceful, quiet street set off the main thoroughfares.

A delightful stay in this homely Bed & Breakfast. The owners made us feel very welcome and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The room was extremely comfortable and provided a quiet, restful nights' sleep. The next morning we both enjoyed the wonderful full English breakfast made from locally sourced produce. We will definitely look to stay at Glencree House again should we return to Penzance.

I paid £35 for a single room which was excellent value for money given that the room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, the wifi was fast and above all the choice at breakfast and the quality of the cooked breakfast was as good as you will get. Our hosts were very friendly, but if I were to advise, you can try too hard in this respect, but that probably says more about me than our hosts. I would strongly recommend this place and if they'll have me back I will stay again!
