Holbein House provides the perfect escape from the day to day. Ally and Mike have created a beautiful, welcoming home for guests. Along with Elvis, the dog, and Molly, the cat, you have all you need for a relaxing stay. Ally is warm, chatty and helpful. You truly feel at home. I returned home so chilled that I am already planning on returning!

Holbein House is ideal for exploring on foot. You are minutes from the sea. Turn right into Newlyn for a working fishing village with the freshest seafood, unique cinema and art gallery. Turn left at the sea for Penzance for more art, bookstores and nautical pubs. Walk further to reach the magical St. Michael’s Mount. On street parking is easy at Holbein House. Breakfast is superb and the shower was fab. 5 stars for sure!

So glad we found this accomodation. The location was perfect for exploring penzance and the surrounding area. Lovely large bedrooms and comfortsble beds. I slept really well. Breakfast to die for with plenty of choice. Ally and Mike are so easy going, nothing is too much trouble and are a font of knowledge for places to visit, getting around and which eateries are a must for the evenings. Just love making a fuss of Elvis, who is always pleased to see you. Would certainly stay at Holbein House again and hopefully in the not too distant future.

First time we have actually stayed in Penzance. Usually its a day trip. Penzance has so much to offer even in the quieter months. Getting around is easy either by train or bus. A visit to St Ives is a must, but we also walked to Newlyn and Mousehole.

Superb guest house with lovely and generous hosts, Mike and Ally. The friendly dog, Elvis, always threatens to steal the show and people's affections. The house is very well decorated and stylish, with attention to the small details. The choice of home made banana bread for breakfast was lovely. I enjoyed the community feel of breakfast with all guests gathered around a large breakfast table. Through our conversations I was introduced to Singapore, Australia and Switzerland. A truly cosmopolitan guestlist stays here. It felt like coming home to friends staying here. Lovely

Lovely guesthouse about 3 minutes walk from the seafront and promenade. Superb location for Penzance, Newlyn and Marazion, potentially all in walking distance around the bay if you feel intrepid. Restaurants we enjoyed included The Bakehouse in Penzance, Mackerel Sky in Newlyn and Penlee House Garden and Art Gallery, Penzance (more a good lunchtime cafe) If stairs and steps aren't your thing there is a flight of outdoor steps to the guest house entrance, so that might be a consideration for you. Otherwise highly recommended.

Very friendly and hospitable hosts Ally and Mike, who have very high standards and are keen to ensure that guests have a comfortable, very clean and well-appointed room, together with a superb breakfast (catering for preferred dietary requirements too). On our first night (of three), we needed to depart by 7:15 a.m. the following morning, yet were still provided with a first-class self-service breakfast. The owners have a delightful dog (Elvis) and cat (Molly) too; neither are allowed in the dining room. We felt very much at home here.

Because of the location, it's a bit of an uphill trek on foot from Penzance railway station and 'Scillonian' ferry quay; allow 30 minutes, or take a taxi. Also, be aware if in a room facing towards Alexandra Road that that the traffic can be a bit noisy until late evening. Finally, get the hosts to show you how to use the unusual kettles, when wanting to make tea or coffee.

Could not recommend HH highly enough. The standards were excellent from the quality of the accommodation to the breakfast and our hosts Mike and Ally went out of their way to make you feel welcome and their insight on local attractions and eateries was invaluable. We got stranded on Saturday due to a train strike and they made this work for us turning what was a problem into a solution with a fantastic extra day and night in Penzance which made it even more special.

Holbein House ist absolut empfehlenswert! Das Haus wurde vor 2 Jahren komplett renoviert und mit ganz viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet. Alles ist darauf ausgerichtet, dass man sich wohlfühlt. Die Zimmer sind sehr gemütlich aber gleichzeitig modern. Ally und Mike (nicht zu vergessen der verschmuste Haushund Elvis) betreiben das Haus mit sehr viel Herzblut und Herzlichkeit. Morgens gibt es ein vielfältiges und qualitativ hochwertiges Frühstück. Man kann sich am Buffet bedienen inklusive hausgebackener Waffeln und veganen Alternativen, und Ally bereitet zusätzlich die typisch englischen Optionen frisch zu (Eierspeisen in allen Variationen, Würstchen, Speck, Bohnen, Porridge usw.)

Wir sind als Familie mit 4 Personen in 2 Doppelzimmern im Holbein House untergebracht gewesen. Die Zimmer und das gesamte Haus sind liebevoll bis in letzte Detail eingerichtet. Die Zimmer sind sehr sauber und hochwertig eingerichtet. Mike und Ally sind die besten Gastgeber, die man sich vorstellen kann. Das Frühstück ist hervorragend und sehr abwechslungsreich. Ein besonderes Highlight ist der Haushund Elvis, ein lieber Golden Retriever, der einen jeden Morgen persönlich begrüßt. Wir werden uns noch lange an diesen schlnen Aufenthalt erinnern.

Mike and Ally give a first class friendly service. Breakfasts are brilliant, accommodating everyone’s choice. You would go a long way to find better. Rooms are comfortable and serviced to a high standard. Their local knowledge is really helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble. They were kind, and worked hard to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The hotel has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Holbein House is situated in a good place which made getting around Penzance or catching the buses or train to nearby places easy. It was good value for money. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them or going again.

We came by train so we didn’t have a car but guests who did seemed to find a place on the street to park with not much problem. Penzance is a nice place in itself but a great base for visiting nearby places. The bus service is good and easy. St Ives was easily accessed by both train and bus. There is lots to do within the area. There are lots of nice, reasonably priced places to eat. Mike and Ally’s recommendations didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed all the evening meals we had and all the staff in every place were very friendly. We even went out to the St Ives brewery at Hale on the Friday night which they advertise as Pizza night and enjoyed some lovely craft beers and the best Pizza ever, freshly cooked from the food van. You can also take a boat trip from Penzance to the Scilly Isles. We didn’t have time to go but guests who did enjoyed it.

The hosts (and dog) were lovely. We could leave our bags at the hotel as we arrived earlier then the check-in time. The hosts even readied our room earlier because of that and let us know when it was ready. Breakfast had a great selection and the hosts made full English breakfasts in several variations. The room (at the top of the house) gets quite warm during the day, but it is easy to cool it down for the night. The shower knob is slightly difficult to turn once your hands are wet.

This is a very lovely place, not too far from the train station as well as the beach and other bus stops for the Land's End Coaster as well as several restaurants and a Lidl.

This is a superb place to stay in wonderful Penzance Cornwall. We spent 8 nights at Holbein House. From the very beginning we were impressed by the style, comfort and facilities at Holbein House. The proprietors combine a high level of professionalism with a warmth and friendliness. The breakfasts are amazing with a very wide range of continental offerings and the huge, scrumptious cooked breakfasts are fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay with Mike, Ally and the lovable Elvis - the resident friendly and docile dog. We so loved this stay, we shall return later in the year. Having travelled fairly extensively, this B&B rates as outstanding. We can unconditionally recommend this comfortable, friendly B&B - the standard of service, care and commitment by the owners makes it a very special stay indeed.

The best B&B I have stayed in. Has everything you could want, and it is very evident how much thought and passion has been put into providing a really comfortable stay. A warm welcome from Mike on arrival and facilities explained and met Elvis, the most impeccably behaved golden retriever you could imagine. Bright, airy room, with plenty of space, sockets and storage. Full length mirror and tea and coffee making facilities. Well proportioned bathroom with the most fantastic water pressure in the shower, and complimentary toiletries. Al absolutely spotlessly clean, and thought given to surfaces for own toiletries and space to do makeup and hair etc. Fabulous breakfast in the beautiful dining room where again Mike was a great, attentive host. Choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt and breads, including fresh homemade banana bread. Full English breakfast was spot on, with quality ingredients and beautifully presented. All cooked by Ali who popped in for a chat afterwards. Such an engaging, friendly couple who obviously love what they do, and it shows. If you want a really comfortable, quality stay up a quiet side street in the middle of this charming seaside town then I can't recommend it highly enough.

Ally and Mike -perfect hosts - they obviously enjoy what they do and all guests benefit from their friendly and energetic efforts -nothing is too much trouble . The House is spotlessly clean and comfortable . Breakfast excellent . Guard dog ,Elvis , kept us safe !! Seriously it is impossible to find fault (apart from the noisy rooks/crows in the trees nearby !) We will definitely be back .

Me and my daughter really enjoyed our stay at Holbein House. It was easy to find, there was plenty of free on street parking outside. The room was clean, comfortable, and contained what we needed and wanted such as plenty of towels, a hair dryer, stuff to make hot drinks, and enough sockets for charging devices. Ally and Mike were really friendly and welcoming and made my daughter and me feel relaxed and welcome. There were a nice range of options on offer for breakfast and we really enjoyed a lovely breakfast. My daughter was delighted to meet Elvis the dog on arrival and then be told there is also a cat and a rabbit in residence. After breakfast my daughter got to meet the cat and the rabbit. Elvis remains the star though, what an absolute beauty he is, so friendly, intelligent and affectionate. We hope to return for another stay, next time with my partner. As my daughter said, "Mummy would love to stay here!"

If you get a chance to stay at Holbein House then do so! You won't regret it.

Ally and Mike are perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome, offering to help us with tips on our swimming trip. Our room was spotlessly clean and there were lots of nice decorative and practical touches. Ally cooked us a perfect breakfast in a beautiful breakfast room stocked with everything you need.

Holbein House is ideally suited to walk into down town Penzance and also walkable from the station if you don't have too many bags. It is a 5 minute walk to the sea and a 15 minute walk to Newlyn for its art gallery and wonderful fish shops. The rooms are all very nicely done with very tasteful decor.

Loved our stay, our hosts and lovable dog Elvis were very welcoming allowed us to check-in very early on our arrival day. The full english breakfast was excellent, and enjoyed conversing with the other guests over breakfast. Pub and restaurant recommendations for Penzance were amazing. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Good location in Penzance, 5-10 walk to main pub/restaurant street and also the high street. Few minute walk to the sea front. Shower was spacious, warm and ideal water pressure. Bed very comfy. The dog Elvis is very well behaved in-case you are somewhat uncomfortable around dogs.

To get to the ferry to The Scillys, organise a taxi. It’s a 10 minute ride, possibly with a shanty singing driver. The proprietor will arrange this for you

This was the most beautiful place that we stayed in a month long trip to the UK!! Breakfast was a feast in the beautiful dining room!This being said,the very best part were the hosts Allison and Mike! They really love what they do and it shows! Allison took time to help us plan the most perfect day in Cornwall and Mike was lovely as our host for breakfast with Ally cooking up a delicious meal !! This was truly a memorable stay with the only regret being we didn’t stay longer!!!

Two nights in October. A fine property in a pretty garden setting. The interior is most attractively decorated. All fittings and furnishings in the good size bedroom and bathroom are of a high standard. Very warm welcome from the charming proprietors who could not have been more helpful. Excellent breakfast with range of choices from continental to cooked. I was very happy to stay here.

I was able to park in the street near Holbein House at this time of year but it may be more difficult in high season. Eating takeaways in your room is discouraged so plan to eat out - there are many possibilities within short walking distance.

We had significant travel problems at both ends of our stay. Ally and Mike were brilliant at providing us with early breakfasts. Nothing was too much trouble they even dried our soaking wet walking kit. The service was just first class and we will be booking a return trip

We stayed for two nights at each end of a trip to Scilly. The owners could not have been friendlier or more helpful, particularly as we had to leave early to catch the ferry and arrive late on returning. I cannot praise them too highly. Thank you very much.

Are 5 starts possible? My only regret after staying overnight in Holbein House after ferry from Scilles (and before train back to London) was that it was too short! This is really a spectacular home, with warm and welcoming hosts. Our bedroom was gorgeous. Breakfast totally yummy. Short cab from Ferry (if you have suitcases) and equally short cab to RR station (again, suitcases). Communication was top notch, entry/instructions easy. The home is surrounded by an equally gorgeous garden in a quiet (except for the morning and evening rooks!) classic neighborhood of Penzance.

Absolutely positively stay for a few days. That is certainly on my future agenda .

Book your cab to ferry or rail station well ahead of time. Only the assistance of HH’s Ally and Mark—much appreciated—prevented five septuagenarians from having to drag our heavy bags the mile or so to the train station.

Holbein House was simply the perfect place for us! Friendly, stylish & great location. We were staying here to complete a walking challenge and it then became apparent that it would be the Queen's funeral while we were staying. The response from Ally & Mike was to invite the guests to join them in their living room to watch the funeral together. Unbelievably, they provided a beautiful light lunch for us all before we went our separate ways. This demonstrates their natural care for those staying with them - all delivered with a light touch. And to top it all, the best nights sleep too! In a nutshell, high quality, friendly, relaxed - perfect for us! A cut above the rest.

Enjoy the relaxed breakfast around a big table! We had some great conversations with other guests over breakfast. This is not a stuffy formal place so enjoy the company!

The reviews and rating and excellent price attracted us first of all for our one night stay in Penzance. But we did not have any idea of the gem which awaited us. Even before meeting Ally and Mike we were impressed with the house, our room and the facilities. Our room was comfortable and quiet. It was the breakfast however that elevated our experience. We loved the long communal table which allowed us to chat to other guests. And the food was superb. A wonderful cooked breakfast but also everything else you might want. Ally’s banana bread was a highlight. The hospitality of Mike and Ally truly makes this a superb place to stay - we will return.

Holbein House is a little way out of the centre of Penzance but worth the 20 minutes or so walk, either along the promenade or via Penlee Park.
